Pamukkale, which means
cotton castle in Turkish, is a remarkable natural site that should
not be missed.
This castle has been fashioned by the naturally hot water, rich in
calcium carbonate, that gushes out of the mountain at a temperature
of 127 Fahrenheit / 53 degrees Celsius and flows towards the plain.
The flow of this calcareous water down the mountain has sculpted a
gigantic series of cup-like turquoise pools, the sides of which are
ribbed with startlingly white stalagmites.
You will also visit the ancient city of Hierapolis which is founded
by Eumenes II King of Pergamon in 190 BC.
In 129 BC, Hierapolis was under Roman control and later it was
destroyed by earthquakes.
Finally it is also possible to see red water and swim in an Ancient
Roman Pool |
