This horn-shaped waterway
streams through the European side of Istanbul and represents one of
the most unique natural harbors in the world. It was very important
during Byzantine and Ottoman times, today the bay is surrounded by
beautiful parks and promenades. At sunset, the skyline of the city
transforms into a scene from a fairy tale. The city streets along
its banks offer a glance into the past. In Fener you can see streets
with houses and churches from the Byzantine times. Eyup, another
important district, is traditionally Ottoman with its old cemeteries
and holy tombs. People visit this place to pray and to express their
hopes. From the hills above Eyup you have a wonderful view of this
Golden Horn, which you can enjoy with a cup of coffee in the
traditional Pierre Loti Cafe.
